A quick note: after this build, I will be diving the application cast into more than one feed. One feed will provide stable release builds, and the other(s) will provide early access releases and betas.
Always remember to back-up your VirtueDesktops preferences before running any beta version.
Changes
- The about window should show up when you select the menu now;
- Lots of memory leaks have been fixed;
- The application inspector should report all standard applications, including non-bundled applications like the Microsoft Office suite;
- Sticky windows should be more reliable;
- The auto-update address has been updated to the (ugly, but working) new address;
Known issues
- Localisation is still spotty. As I’ve said before, this will be fixed closer to release;
- CPU usage may be a little higher in this build. It reports as using 0.1% more CPU than the last version on my MacBook Pro, but I’ll need your feedback to help me see if this will be a problem;
- There are still crashing bugs - make sure you report them as you find them;
- Sometimes the font panel gets lost when using VirtueDesktops (seemingly only inside VirtueDesktops);
- Light and Motion sensors triggers are still wonky. I will look at this as soon as the bugs above are handled;
- I’m also planning on writing help for the full 0.54 release, so hopefully I can label that a build for end users.
- At this stage, I’m not planning on supporting VirtueDesktops under Leopard.
- Please use VirtueTrac to search for any issues you may be having, and to report any new problems.

Changes
- Growl can now be enabled and disabled from the appearance preference pane;
- Resolves the long standing bug where the status item would not update when desktop names changed;
- Resolved an issue where if an application no longer existed on the file-system, the application would fail to start.

Changes
- All UI controls should now be hooked up and working as expected - please file issues on trac for any that aren’t;
- Applications settings are now stored as per the bundle ID, as opposed to the file system path of the application;
- Image overlays can now be scaled in exactly the same manner as the system desktop picture preferences. I would recommend everyone try them out, as there should be no visible difference in how the desktop appears, but the actual transition won’t have any delay (the new desktop picture should be part of the transition!). I will be looking at making this the default in 0.54 final;
- Desktops can now be re-arranged from the “Organise your desktops” window;
- Decorations that support positioning can now be centred on-screen;
